Atlantis has been a mythical city and theme that has long been used in video games. Whether the game is based around the city, or the city playing a huge role in the story, one way or another, Atlantis will be a great theme for games for years to come.

However, while it hasn’t been as prevalent as some other mythical cities, it is a great theme for a game, be it a pc, some other console, online casino game, or a board game. With that in mind, here are some of the titles that have utilized the city and its theme in the best possible way.

Atlantis Themed Video Games

1. Atlantis Underwater Tycoon

Part of the Tycoon series, Atlantis Underwater Tycoon was released all the way back in 2003. It is a real-time simulation game where you have to build up and manage a city based around the lost city of Atlantis.

There is a mission mode where you have to complete certain tasks, or a sand-box mode where you can do and build whatever you want. It was the first building game to be based underwater, and is still regarded as one of the best titles in the Tycoon franchise.

2. Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis

Released in 1992, Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis was a point and click adventure game. It put players in the role of Indi as he explored and discovered clues and secrets that would lead him to Atlantis.

This game is seen as one of the best that year, and point and click adventurers still hold up well today. The puzzles are difficult and require time, and the story is engaging. For a simple point and click game, it is far more fun than you might think.

3. The Journeyman Project 3: Legacy of Time

Legacy of Time was probably one of the most advanced games of its time. It used a 360 degree, pre-rendered 3D CGI interaction system, which was similar to QuickTime VR, and was also one of the first games released on DVD-ROM.

The game itself is an adventure game that sees you take control of the hero as you try to find the pieces of a device, called the Legacy of Time, which aliens are also looking for. On your adventure, you travel through three mythical cities: Atlantis, Shangri-la, and El Dorado.

4. Assassins Creed Odyssey

Part of Assassin’s Creed Odyssey takes players into the depths of Atlantis, with Poseidon. There is a fairly big story arc that involves exploring Atlantis, helping Poseidon, and eventually taking part in the final judgement of the city.

Odyssey is widely regarded as one of the best Assassin’s Creed games, and while Atlantis may not play a huge role in the overall story, the arc that you follow is incredibly fun and engaging – and does hold a number of surprises that won’t be spoiled here.

5. Ark of Time

Ark of Time is another game released in the late 90s that centers around the fate of Atlantis. You play the role of Richard, a newspaper reporter, who is in search of a missing professor. Through his investigation, he gets entangled in the mystery that surrounds the lost city.

The game is a third-person, point and click adventure/puzzle game. It has received fairly high ratings since its inception. Complementing its great storytelling and humor, there are also some unexpected twists and turns that you won’t see coming.

6. Atlantis: The Lost Tales

The first in a series of games based around Atlantis, The Lost Tales is a first-person puzzle game that is in pre-rendered, panoramic 3D. The HUD of the game is designed in a way that looks like a window into Atlantis, you don’t actually move the mouse around the screen, when you move the mouse, the whole screen moves.

What sets this game apart from other puzzle games is that the puzzles are very abstract, with the answers not being obvious at all, and almost always surprising. There are also parts where your reaction times are tested, and failing the particular challenge loses the player the level. For a game released in 1997, it has depth, character and a fair amount of replayability.

7. Return to Atlantis

One of the first games that dived into the world of Atlantis, is the 1988 side-scroller Return to Atlantis. You play the role of an expert diver proficient in underwater combat and with a penchant for stopping disasters.

The point of the game is simple, you explore multiple different areas, picking up equipment and defeating enemies, all while stopping a plot to destroy earth’s oceans. While the game does look simple due to its age, it is a very engaging side-scroller/arcade title, perfect for any game who wants that vintage and arcade feel while exploring the unknown depths of the ocean.

8. Tomb Raider: Anniversary

Onto a game that can be viewed as more modern, Tomb Raider: Anniversary once again centers around Lara Croft, as she has to complete 14 levels, set in 4 different parts of the world, on a quest to discover the Scion of Atlantis.

Even though it was released in 2007, the game still plays really well today, and received rave reviews upon release. The levels are well designed, the puzzles and action are engaging and interesting, and it has everything that fans of the franchise expect from a Tomb Raider game.

Atlantis Themed Online Casino Games

9. Atlantis Rising

The action takes place on the seabed where a long-lost kingdom is now hidden. It is a slot game that comes with a very high-quality design (not expected from casino games, by many), which adds to the gambling experience, making it a little different. With such quality, it’s to imagine life underwater, and how Atlantis may look.

In the background, players discover statues of guards and huge cuttlefish, the sun’s rays fall on the whole picture, and the atmosphere is completed by a top-notch musical record that encourages adventure and spin. The slot has a game board consisting of five columns in four rows, and it is framed by a gold frame and contains basic as well as special symbols.

10. Atlantis

One of the top-rated slot games developed by Evoplay. Flawlessly done with a superb design, bright colors, and enchanting animations. While playing you will enjoy bonus free spins with randomly added wild symbols, as well as re-spins combined with other bonuses.

The background is set to be a beautiful view of the lost city, illuminated by the moon. You will see pyramids, palm trees, a beautiful waterfall, and a fountain with a stone sculpture. This stone sculpture also has its role in the bonus round.

At the bottom of the game are options for adjusting the size of the stakes, and starting the game.

11. Queen of Atlantis

Inspired by the first queen of Atlantis – Basileia, the eldest daughter of Uranus, the god of the sky. Exclusive bonuses await you in the slot through two types of free spins and magic symbols.

The underwater reefs that surround the ruins of this lost city are in the background of the slot. When you load the game, you will be amazed by the beauty of the underwater sea world and the remains of ancient ruins. The graphics and animations in the slot are perfectly done.

What can be noticed is that with the increased popularity of online gambling, the theme is mostly used in slots. Apart from those we mentioned, to browse similar exciting themed slots visit here.

12. Survive: Escape from Atlantis!

Those who say board games are out of fashion are only saying it out of fear of incompetence. Games such as this one require a lot of strategy and thinking. Players will need to evacuate their survivors to the safe islands surrounding Atlantis before it is completely destroyed and sinks into the sea. They can travel by boat or try to swim in more desperate actions, but there are also sharks and sea monsters patrolling the waters.

Published in the eighties (but still popular), this kind of game has everything, it’s educational, challenging, and fun.

As you can see, there haven’t actually been a lot of games made surrounding the lost city of Atlantis. However, the ones that do exist, no matter how old, do stand the test of time – and players can pick them up and enjoy them as much as they did when they were first released.

Hopefully, in the future we will see more games based on Atlantis. The city and the story can most definitely offer game developers far more than what we have seen already.
